I remember when I was a kid, visiting my Grandpa and Grandma who always had a recliner and that seat was the most coveted seat for the grandkids in the family--consequently stealing the chair from my Grandpa who probably needed it more. But, he always let us have it. Because that was the kind of man he was.
But what if you didn't have to give up your most prized seat for everyone else? These days we not only have reclining sofas available to us, but reclining, powered sectionals. Are they right for your needs, or should you go with something more traditional?
Reclining sofas themselves are extremely popular with families for a lot of reasons. Whether you have a small family or a lot of extended family over all the time, a sectional offers a lot of space to relax, provide different ways to sit in front of your favorite movie or binge session, nearly eliminate the arguments over the best seat in the house, and provide maybe the best living room nap experience available. If you want the whole family to enjoy one piece of furniture in a variety of ways, then a reclining sofa may be right for you.
Pros
These sofas are very comfortable and if you're the type of person who needs additional back support, they alleviate some of that back pain. And let me tell you, as someone who suffers from stress tension in my shoulders, neck, and lower back, that's a really appealing feature. Better yet, they come in manual and electric versions so you can appease the traditionalist, the tech saavy, or just the person who requires a little more help from their furniture.
Cons
One word: price. The cost for a sectional is going to be much higher than a traditional sofa. Especially if you opt for the powered, electric version. And while the electric sectional is great for those who are weaker or have problems operating the manual version (I can't tell you how many times I've tried to pull on those little handles and can't get it to move...therefore requiring I get out of the chair to make it happen) , it does need to be plugged in to work, and most likely will raise your power bill. Additionally, keep in mind that any reclining sofa needs to be pulled out from the wall to make sure that there is enough room for it to be able to fully recline.
